Riding in Cars With Boys by Beverly Donofrio

Interesting story, but the writing is disorganized and alarmingly childish. A person could learn a lot from this story if the author had put more effort into delving into how the events in her life affected her deep down, not just on the surface, and had been less selfish in her speculations.

First Rider’s Call by Kristen Britain

I tried so hard to like this book because I LOVED the first one. As I analyze the difference in my reaction I realize it had to do with the way the author worked with the characters. In this book, the assumption was that we knew the characters so we didn’t see them developing in [...]

The Creek by Jennifer Holm

A bit difficult to believe because it’s written in adult words, but supposed to represent a child’s mind. Good story though–very unpredictable ending.

Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult

Great read! The novel is incredibly well researched and sensitively written and contains a nice balance between the two intertwining stories.

Carrie by Stephen King

Love this book! The story is just believable enough to be creepy, and the very end really makes you think about all the things in the world you can’t or don’t understand. Also very easy to read–quick but not simple.

Christine by Stephen King

One of my all-time favorites. Everybody remembers some incident of teenage rebellion, but this one beats them all. Again, King’s ending leaves a creepy taste in your brain…

The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen

A departure from Gerritsen’s usual in that it involves prolonged interaction between the victim and the (known) assailant. A quick, easy, fun beach read.

Vi Agra Falls by Mary Daheim

Judith really had her hands full this time and Joe wasn’t around to help her. Her relationship with her mother, cousin, and Joe’s ex were really challenged this time. I wish her mother were as accepting of her as she is of Vi.

Survivor by Tabitha King

Wonderful novel! A few unexpected twists but not too many. Intriguing story. Extremely well written. Language might be a bit much for the sensitive crowd.

The Grub & Stakers House a Haunt by Charlotte MacLeod

This is the first grub & stakers I’ve read. Sometimes when you read an author you’ve never heard of, there are many pleasant surprises. The dialogue was so much fun. I hope the haunt stays around and continues to offer Zilla more companionship.
